In the last year Portugal was ranked 5th among European Union countries and 18th in the world (among 198 countries) for technology utilisation to improve Electronic Government.

According to the report* published on 19 August by the Brookings Governance Studies, Portugal has maintained its excellent performance in the improvements introduced in Electronic Government in the last year. It stands in 18th place in the world and 5th in the European Union.

Technological Plan: e.escolinha (e-primary school) places 500,000 computers in primary schools. (www.inicitiva-magalhaes.com)

In the ambit of the Technological Plan initiative, the e.escolinha programme, half a million primary school pupils will receive laptop computers. This was announced by the Prime Minister in Lisbon on 30 July 2008.
